Joe Brennan Joe Brennan joined The Field Museum in November 2005 as the Museum’s Vice President and General Counsel. As The Field Museum’s General Counsel Joe is responsible for managing all of the legal affairs of the Museum, including issues relating to intellectual property, collections management/cultural property, exhibitions, business affairs, education initiatives, and insurance. Working with the Provost and the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Joe also supervises the legal aspects of the Museum’s academic activities – which include nearly 200 full-time scientists, with ongoing research activities in more than 35 countries. Joe also serves as Vice President of External Affairs for the Museum. In this capacity Joe is responsible for designing and executing strategies for a variety of community and governmental initiatives. Joe is engaged in fostering support for the Museum through partnerships and community programs, and in promoting the Museum’s diverse operations to federal, state and local government. Joe coordinates frequently with the Museum’s Environment, Culture and Conservation division to support the Museum’s environmental conservation (ECCO) and cultural outreach (CCUC) activities. Prior to joining the Museum, Joe served as General Counsel and Secretary of T-Systems North America (a sister company to T-Mobile), the domestic arm of a multi-national telecommunications and IT outsourcing company owned by Deutsche Telekom. Joe also previously held positions as corporate counsel at BlueMeteor Inc. (a Chicago-based IT company); the City of Chicago; and the law firm of Miller, Foucher, Chertow, Cafferty and Wexler in Chicago. Joe graduated Cum Laude from Indiana University School of Law and Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University.
